Since taking up Pilates, my golf has improved and I have reduced my handicap from 7 to 5. Being in my late sixties, all I was really looking for was to maintain the handicap I had. I definitely feel my swing has more freedom. My right shoulder gave me some pain previously but now feels considerably better and I feel my core is stronger. I’m finding Pilates easier to do than yoga and more beneficial as Rosie tailors and adapts exercises to individual needs. The classes have been not just beneficial to my flexibility and strength but are also really enjoyable thanks to Rosie’s enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to cater for all abilities. I have got to know the class members and enjoy the interaction. I wish I’d taken up Pilates years ago!

I have attended Pilates classes by Rosie for some years now, both mat work classes and individual Reformer classes which I love. Because of the low-impact nature of the exercises my joints are strengthened, and the surrounding muscles are stretched but without putting them under undue pressure. Rosie is a skilled and knowledgeable teacher, but also patient and understanding and really cares for her students. Each class leaves me feeling energised but also calm, relaxed and motivated. Individual sessions are tailored to my needs and the hands-on guidance and correction ensure that I am doing the movements correctly. Following a pelvic prolapse, Rosie’s exercises strengthened my pelvic floor muscles, and I am now symptom-free! I feel stronger all round with improved core strength and flexibility. My joints feel strengthened and, as a golfer, Reformer Pilates has helped me by increasing my flexibility, strength, and stability. As a result my golf swing is easier and more fluid, resulting in increased ball distance from the tee.

In August 2021 I sustained an injury to my right rotator cuff which the GP was unable to treat other than advise rest, analgesia and gentle physio. Over time the pain in my shoulder slowly began to recede, but I was left with severe pain in my neck and shoulders. My doctors were unable to successfully treat the pain, and following an x-ray it was found that I had moderate disease of the thoracic and cervical area. The pain affected every area of my daily life. In August 2023 I started 1:1 Pilates with Rosie and as a result, I now have a lot more movement in my neck, my posture has changed and I am generally able to do most things I was able to prior to August 2021 with minimal pain. Analgesics are no longer the main stay of my daily life and I have been given the tools to help me maintain a stable and active lifestyle. I continue to receive treatment from Rosie, and such is my belief in her that I travel from Edinburgh regularly and so appreciate her continued commitment to my ongoing wellbeing. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
